Abstract

The startup phenomenon, an expression of contemporary dynamics, reflects the interplay between the processes of economic financialization and the advancement of technological innovation in shaping new spaces and frontiers of financial accumulation on a global scale. Agtechs represent a specific type of startup, offering innovative services/products that constitute a set of activities characteristic of what is termed Agriculture 4.0—the most specialized and contemporary expression of the productive consumption inherent in globalized agribusiness. The emergence and operation of agtechs within Brazilian territory follow a broader global trend, a phenomenon that reveals one facet of financialization as it relates to the practices of contemporary globalized agribusiness. This study aims to assess the relevance of these new economic actors by examining their impact on territorial dynamics and how they manifest both globally and locally (with a focus on the Brazilian case), based on data regarding investment volumes and the nature of the services they provide.
