Educação Física Escolar e esporte: o jogo e a competição aliados ao processo de ensino do handebol

Abstract

The aim of this study was to plan, develop and implement a teaching unit that incorporated a competition format oriented towards the teaching and learning of handball, thus re-signifying it within educational sports culture. This is a qualitative action-research study. Four Physical Education (PE) teachers from the early years of primary education and their respective 4th- and 5th-grade pupils took part. The instruments used were a field diary and focus groups with the teachers, and we applied qualitative content analysis. The results revealed that the proposal aroused students’ interest in an innovative competition that goes beyond logic centred solely on victory, fostering respect, cooperation and the development of team spirit.
