Abstract

Since antiquity, thinkers have offered definitions about what would be sacred and profane, revealing that even in times of greatest instability and uncertainty the organization and sociopolitical hierarchies linked to the ciuitas /city universe were directly related to those definitions. Our study intends to offer some considerations about the understanding of the sacred and the profane and their connections in the Hellenistic, Late and Medieval worlds that led us to confront the concepts of crisis and hierarchy that are essential to better understand History itself.
