Abstract

This article examines the relationship between gender and education in contemporary Brazil from a historical and sociological perspective. It takes as its point of departure the recognition of rights related to gender diversity, both internationally and in Brazil, and considers the school as one of the main spaces in which these rights are implemented and contested. Based on bibliographic research and documentary analysis, the study discusses legal advances and current struggles in defense of the right to difference.

  • Júlio César Suzuki

    Full professor at the Department of Geography at the University of Sao Paulo (USP), Brazil. Deputy Director of the PhD Program in Latin American Integration at USP. Former postdoctoral researcher at the Université Paris 1 - Panthéon-Sorbonne, at the Université Rennes 2 and also at the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour. Holds a BA in Geography, a BA in Language, and a BA in Chemistry. ORCID: 0000-0001-7499-3242.
