Abstract

The study aimed to develop an alternative method for diagnosing the state of the road infrastructure on a stretch of the PB-262 highway (Serra do Teixeira), using a Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA). The methodological procedures comprised three stages: i) reviewing the literature on asphalt paving, damage and assessment methods; ii) collecting public and field data; and iii) applying a sidewalk assessment methodology with the ARP, complementing the Global Severity Index (GII). The results of the study show that the analyzed stretch of the PB-262 was classified with a global severity index above the threshold of 160, which represents a very poor state of affairs. It can be concluded that the use of remotely piloted aircraft has precise potential for evaluating highways, with the choice of the appropriate drone model depending on the specific component to be inspected.
