Trajectories of novelized reality: compositional and biographical mishaps in Truman Capote’s In cold blood

Through an analysis of Truman Capote’s letters between 1959 and 1965, this paper seeks to explain the author’s creative process in the writing of the book In cold blood, published in 1966. We start from some key concepts of the speech genres and the non-fiction novel in order to understand certain mechanisms of creation of the work in question. Based on biographical criticism and some related theories, we formulate some peculiarities of our method of analysis. We then interpret the author’s artistic project by analyzing his correspondence. We end with a reinterpretation of the theory of non-fiction for this work.
