NNós Propomos! Project in middle school Geography classes

Abstract

This paper aims at discussing the application of “Nós Propomos!” educational methodology. The Project was developed with Middle School students, more specifically Brazilian 9^th grade, students from Goiás. It followed the principles of collaborative research, having both university professors and school teachers working together to teach students and help them investigate and point out citizen solutions to solve local issues. The research at the school focused on the approach to geographical concepts and content, the use of local study guides, fieldwork, data generation and tabulation, and the presentation of the final results in a university seminar. It is considered that the experience has succeed, that teachers and students were the protagonists in the geographical knowledge construction, that it was possible to develop a systematic analysis of the issues investigated, and that the citizenship education was potentialized.
